Smart Water App
Water consumption in
the palm of your hand.

At IBM iX we created a first-of-its-kind consumer app for a leading water and energy provider Gelsenwasser in Germany. Designed and prototyped with user-centricity and functionality in mind. The app offers a seamless experience through the services including monitoring live-data from smart meters, adjusting payment periods and many more features.

Challenge

The german utility company Gelsenwasser rolled out smart meters for tap water in households–nationwide.

At the Gelsenwasser Headquarters in Gelsenkirchen.

The problem is twofold, because the data is currently not tracked on the basis of a missing opt-in from the users.

Secondly, there is currently no interface where users can see and interact with the data.

Solution

Collaboratively with the client’s stakeholders we developed an app prototype in just 4 weeks.

We initiated the project with discovery and scoping workshops and based our success criteria on field and user research, we conducted beforehand.

In my role as lead designer on this project, I was responsible to deliver an excellent and in time result to the client.

Moodboards helped us
nail down the right style.

Thanks to our rapid implementation of the user requirements and those of the clients, we were able to test and validate our prototype efficiently with experts and users.
